"Great nations write their autobiographies in three manuscripts--the book of their deeds, the book of their words and the book of their art."

—John Ruskin (1819-1900) British writer, art critic, Modern Painters

Welcome to the West Texas Library System!

Document Actions

The West Texas Library System (WTLS) is one of ten regional library systems established by the Texas State Legislature through the Library Systems Act of 1969.  The Texas State Library and Archives Commission administers the system act.

WTLS has 34 member libraries in a 29 county area.   All of the regional library systems offer consulting services and continuing education opportunities to libraries that qualify as members.

Each system provides other services to its member libraries that are tailored to the needs of those libraries in the area.   Libraries are represented in the planning process by the library director and a lay person appointed by their governing authority.  Final program recommendations are approved by an Advisory Council made up of  lay persons.
